Victoria Dock

Decommissioned in 1990 as a result of the growth in containerisation, Victoria Dock has been reborn as a state-of-the-art freight and logistics centre upon which the future efficiencies of containerised freight pathways depends. Through Westgate Ports, this historic port facility will play an integral role in the future viability of the port.

With a 21 hectare site and an ongoing $80 million redevelopment, Westgate Ports is transforming the site at Victoria Dock into a 'one-stop shop' for all container-related services through Port of Melbourne.

Central to Westgate Ports operations will be the Victoria Dock Container Logistics Centre, a 17,500m² warehouse with a 50,000m² container hardstand storage area. Together with a separate 5,400m² warehouse and a three-track dual-gauge rail terminal, Victoria Dock will become a vital link between port operations and the prime containerised freight catchment areas of Altona in the west and Lyndhurst in the south-east, where Westgate Ports is developing major inland port facilities.

Positioned within 500 metres of Swanson Dock, Westgate Ports Services is committed to the efficient and cost effective transfer of containerised freight to and from the two international container terminals.

Our location, our experienced staff and our state-of-the-art information technology systems means clients can rely on their freight arriving on time.

Underpinning our reliability is our capacity to stage containers at Victoria Dock before handling them through to Swanson Dock at night as bulk movements (bulk runs). By taking advantage of this off-peak period, Westgate Ports Services provides the greatest possible level of efficiency to our clients while guaranteeing maximum reliability on delivery times as containers are delivered from our depot directly to clients' premises.

At Westgate Ports Services, we provide a full range of AQIS and Customs services.

Whether it's fumigation of export timber or an AQIS inspection of imported foods, Westgate Ports Services aims to provide a level of service and visibility previously unknown in the container logistics market.

pinpoint the location and status of every container in real time;
identify individual truck movements – clients can watch their truck live via GPS;
be automatically alerted by email as certain events occur (such as 'arrived at client' or 'container de-hired'), eliminating the need for client phone calls;
book and change all jobs online through our web-enabled booking system; and
customise the online booking system to provide information in a client-friendly format – clients can see what's most important to them first.
